maybe we tend to be a little spoiled?

I got talking with a woman who commutes every day from Helsingborg to Helsingør. It's a commute that takes 20 minutes each way with a ferry. She complained about the hassle of waiting to get on and off the ferry which prolonged the trip and then the walk all the way from the ferry to the stationhouse, a walk that takes about 3 minutes. She was genuinely distressed about the 'situation'.

I was reminded of a BBC programme we saw the other day; 'Human Planet'. In one of the episodes a tibetan father walks this children to school for the spring term (boarding school) and they walk for six days. And the journey is hazardous because they have to follow the frozen river, that is beginning to thaw. So the danger of falling in to the icy river and being swept away is very real.


It just puts things in perspective.
